hahahaha
love it
After watching the ‘Kony 2012’ video I went through a multitude of reactions, firstly I became a devout activist. Bought myself the action kit and got everyone I could to watch the Youtube video. A few days on I saw another Youtube video made by a Ugandan woman, who spoke against what the Invisible Children group was campaigning.
After doing a lot of research I saw an interview with Jason Russell on Today. In the video he states;
“In math you don’t start with calculus, or algebra. There’s complicated issues in the world, we know that - Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, these are complex issues. Kony’s not. He’s 1 plus 1. We can all agree with that. We can all agree, together, we’re going to stop him.”
It was this statement that made me realise my devout activism had been purely emotional. I now wish I could get back the $47.26 I spent on the Kony action kit, and stop the damned thing getting delivered to my door.
Joseph Kony is not 1 plus 1. Bringing him to justice will not be simple. Moreover, when those abducted by Kony return to their homes, it will be a lot more challenging than we are led to believe in the video.
Although I have now read a lot of material I could find on the internet, I am aware I am still nowhere near knowing enough about the political situation in Uganda. Or other countries where Kony is now active. I don’t feel comfortable saying what should be done, or what anyone reading this should believe. However, below are some links to articles I found especially compelling. Please read them, do your own research and then decide whether you are really a believer in Kony 2012 - or at least the Invisible Children’s campaign.
I left my free fish cakes the the restaurant, worked very hard to eat them, it’s world shattering
so much going on in my head, I wish I could write it all down. Make my continuous, chaotic rant something valuable. I think I’ve forgotten how
